Rotary District 9810

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization with more than 1.2 million members in over 33,000 clubs grouped together in 534 Districts in over 200 countries and geographic areas. Club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self. Within Australia, District 9810 is one of 22 Districts consisting of over 1,100 Clubs and 34,000 Rotarians all connected to the worldwide Rotary network. A great video clip with an overview of Rotary is available on the Rotary Down Under website. Rotary District 9810 forms part of the Melbourne conurbation located in the southeast sector of the city. It spans from Port Phillip Bay from Beaumaris to Chelsea on its western border, stretching some 60 kilometres north eastwards to the Dandenong ranges and as far as Healesville in the Yarra Valley at its eastern border. Mulgrave is the approximate geographic centre of the District. Although compact in area, there are 50 Rotary clubs in the District ranging in size from small clubs of around 15 to ones with over 60 members. Clubs may differ from each other in demographic terms, meeting times and venues, but all have the same aims of making the world a better place, locally and internationally, while at the same time strengthening established friendships and creating new ones.
