Welcome to the MEC
Who we are

The Monash Enterprise Centre (MEC), known also as the Monash Business Incubator (MBI) is a purpose built business facility established by the City of Monash through its Economic Development Unit. Small business development is vital to the success of today’s business world, and in a challenging economic climate, the Monash Business Incubator provides a valuable opportunity for new and emerging small business to develop in a supported environment. The Centre provides office space and administration services at competitive rates to its tenants (Licensees). The Centre also provides a valuable service to virtual tenants (Associates) to develop a corporate image in some instances, participate in networking opportunities, and to use the meeting room facilities provided at the Centre, among other benefits.
Our Philosophy
The MEC’s essential core value is one of community. Among Licensees and Associates the Centre thrives on encompassing small businesses as members of a community, sharing networking opportunities, as well as facilities and services provided at the Centre.
We aim to support the growth and development of small business in the City of Monash, to assist our Licensees to grow and develop, and so take their place as a mature business.
Our History
The Monash Enterprise Centre commenced operations in 1999 in Mulgrave, Victoria and is a not-for-profit association with assistance provided by the City of Monash and the then Federal Department of Employment Workplace Relations and Small Business.
Due to demand for small business support and the successful operation of the Centre, an expansion of the facilities was completed in March 2007, with the help of Small Business Incubator program, an Australian Government initiative.
Now, the Centre continues to extend its support by catering to the needs of the small business community in the South Eastern Melbourne by offering an Associated Membership to our virtual tenants.
The MEC is managed by John Muscat, assisted by Maree Philipson, Barbara Harkin & Crystal Clark. These positions report to a Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Board John Baker.
